About RAMP
RAMP, The Raw Materials Partnership for the Green and Digital Transition, is a global partnership for enabling transnational research and innovation funding across the raw materials value chain.
Raw materials are crucial for the technologies that support the green and digital transition. They are used in renewable energy systems, batteries, digital technologies and infrastructure.
The International Energy Agency expects raw material demand to increase significantly during the next few decades, especially for energy-transition minerals. Yet the current supply of primary and secondary raw materials is inadequate to meet this demand. It is also highly concentrated, with only a few countries dominating extraction and processing.
Hence, there is an urgent need to diversify sources while enhancing circularity and reducing negative social and ecological impacts.
This led to the adoption of the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act in 2024. It is also why RAMP was launched in late 2025.
Support for international long-term research and innovation
Co-funded by the European Union, RAMP is a global partnership for enabling transnational research and innovation on raw materials.
RAMP’s funded projects and partnership-level activities will span value chains of various metals and minerals, industrial and battery materials, and construction materials, including materials deemed critical or strategic.
RAMP’s long-term vision is to contribute to securing a sustainable and resilient supply of raw materials, facilitating efficient design and production, and promoting socially and environmentally responsible use.
To achieve this vision, RAMP is pursuing the following strategic aims:
- Build a strong, international research and innovation ecosystem on raw materials
- Support the full value chain – from exploration to recycling
- Strengthen Europe's strategic autonomy and industrial resilience
- Promote circular, sustainable and policy-relevant innovation
RAMP will align national/regional and European funding and work closely with academia, industry, policymakers, government agencies and NGOs to meet these aims.
Transnational calls, conferences and policy-support actions
RAMP will launch seven transnational calls and implement a range of additional (partnership-level) activities during the next decade. The calls and additional activities will be organized around six themes as described in the RAMP Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda (SRIA). The themes include three core themes focusing on raw materials supply, design and production, and use and reuse of products, and three crosscutting themes focusing on policy, sustainability, and skills development. RAMP strongly encourages interdisciplinarity and especially the integration of social sciences. It strives for a close link with other recent or ongoing national and international research and innovation activities.
Built for cross-border impact
Raw material supply chains extend across the continents, as do sustainability challenges and the need for innovation. Although RAMP is rooted in European cooperation, its membership is truly global. From exploration and processing to design, use, and recycling, we provide continuity, structure, and shared direction across borders.

What RAMP offers to participants
For researchers, we provide coordinated transnational funding and long-term collaboration frameworks that allow knowledge to move across borders and disciplines.
For companies, we reduce risk through public co-funding and enable early engagement with emerging technologies and international partners.
For funders and policymakers, we strengthen cross-border alignment, harness complementarity and reduce duplication.
RAMP’s impact goes beyond individual projects to strengthening the long-term research and innovation capacity of the entire raw materials ecosystem.
We cannot promise breakthroughs, but we make coordinated progress possible.
RAMP in brief
Structure: Long-term partnership co-funded by the European Union
Partners: Consortium of 56 partners from 34 countries
Budget: Approximately 385 million EUR including an EU contribution of 90 million EUR
Calls: Seven transnational calls (2026-2032)
Activities: Six annual conferences and many regional and local events
Coordinator: Vinnova (Sweden's Innovation Agency)
How to engage with RAMP
The transition to resilient and sustainable raw materials value chains cannot rely on isolated efforts. It depends on sustained international collaboration and shared responsibility across sectors and countries. RAMP provides the structure for that collaboration and invites researchers, companies, and other actors from around the world to participate in the Partnership’s transnational calls and other activities.
